A birthday lunch at Cafe Nocello, Success

As our daughters were growing up we always had a family party for every one of my four girls birthdays. This might not seem a big deal but when you’ve got a big family it ended up being around forty people some times. Now they are grown up it’s a bit more low key. I try to take each daughter out for lunch for her birthday, I love to see them on their special day and it’s nice to spend some quality time with them. Recently to celebrate my daughters birthday I went to lunch with two of my girls and my sweet 2 year old grandson.

Our choice was Cafe Nocello in Success. Cafe Nocello is BYO so we bought a bottle of wine to share. Claude and I have been there on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. My girls love their pasta so I thought this would be a great choice. Normally they aren’t very big eaters but I talked them into sharing garlic bread ($5.50) and arancini ($15.50) for an entree. The garlic bread was very buttery with a great garlic flavour. The arancinis were ok but I have had better, they were a little bit mushy.
For our mains I chose Snapper, the fish of the day, which was served with mashed potato, prosciutto wrapped asparagus and half a grilled prawn. The fish was wonderfully moist, cooked perfectly, as was the prawn and I loved the creamy mashed potato.
The Kid’s Menu offers the standard meals. My grandson enjoyed his BBQ chicken nuggets and chips but we thought the chicken was very grey and didn’t look particularly appetising. ($13.50)
The birthday girl chose Ravioli Al Pomodoro. The ravioli were filled with spinach and ricotta and the sauce was light and fresh. ($22.50)
My other daughter went for pasta as well. The Fettuccine Nocello was made with chicken, mushroom, onion and bacon in a light cream sauce. It was an enormous dish but she was determined not to leave any.
Throughout our lunch the service was quick and very attentive and the waiter was very sweet to my grandson. When we all were feeling a little warm I asked if the air conditioning was on and the waiter went Immediately to turn it on.
Even though we were so full I still talked the girls into sharing some Profiteroles, which are my favourite. We all left feeling very happy and satisfied customers.
